About

Kokonga Farm is situated in the Waiketetu Valley on the West Coast, west of Huntly and north of Hamilton.
Kokonga Farm is a total of 1296 hectares, which farms approximately 3,500 ewes, 1,100 cattle along with our 130 cow breeding herd.
Kokonga Hereford stud was established in 2004 and is committed to building a sound, functional, high performing herd of cows displaying constitution, milking ability and fertility.
We were extremely fortunate to acquire females from the well renowned Leelands stud from Hawkes Bay as our original
foundation. In 2011 we have added cows from the dispersals of the long standing Wando and Awhea studs together with a number of selected incalf heifers from the Waikaka herd. In 2012 we have added 24 in-calf heifers, from the Okawa Stud which further strengthen our herd.
Our aim at Kokonga is to produce a line of sound, easy doing young bulls that display constitution and growth from moderate birth weights. With these goals in mind we have embarked on a defined breeding program by selecting and purchasing several top sires to take the herd forward:
2009 Purchased Waikaka Commodore 0769, ‘Supreme Champion Hereford’ at Beef Expo 2009 (the second sons in this year’s sale offering). An extremely long, dark, soft skinned bull with great markings and beautiful temperament
2010 Purchased Leelands Digital 883, ‘Supreme Champion Hereford and Champion of Champions’ at Beef Expo 2010. (First sons available this season). A big, sound, growth bull with bone, carcass and a real sires head.
2011 Purchased Limehills Electra bred in Roxburgh by the winners of the 2010 Hereford Herd of Excellence. A moderate sized bull with real meat, a terrific top and hindquarter. A bull that typifies the strengths of the Hereford Prime program.
2011 Purchased Okawa Baritone bred by the Morrow family at the home of the inaugural winners of the Hereford Herd of Excellence. A very dark soft coated growth bull with natural thickness and a great carcass.
